As we pepare for opening day, one of our projects was to re-finish the floors in the Proshop and the main entrance to the golf club. There has been about 8 years of use in these areas and the hardwood floor was starting to look tired and in need of a face lift. Smyles Hardwood Flooring, who was the original installer of the floor came back in this past week to revitalize these areas. Wayne did a great job wand we are just waiting now for the floor to cure before we can move all the furniture back in and start setting up for opening day which is May the 3rd.

We landed in Charlotte N.C. On Wednesday afternoon and headed by car to Sage Valley Golf Club located in Graniteville South Carolina which was about another 2hrs by car. When we arrived at Sage Valley Golf Club we were met by very friendly and professional staff and they treated us to an amazing dinner.

Thursday we were up early to play a round of golf on the course. It was in fantastic condition and with the help of my caddie, Bruce, I managed to get around the course without embarrassing myself. We had an hour or so to kill before we headed over to the shooting range so Barry and I picked up some fishing rods that they had in the Proshop and headed out to the pond on #17 to do some bass fishing. Barry hauled one in right off the bat but I got skunked.

We then headed over to the Shooting Range after that for an afternoon of skeet shooting with the group. It was a lot of fun and we actually managed to hit some clays in the process. After a full day of playing we headed back to our cottage for a southern home-style meal. I would like to say that we then partied hard but we were all wiped out and I think we were all in bed by 9:30pm.

Friday we were able to tour the turf maintenance shop for Sage Valley and talk to the Superintendent, Chuck Green. It was great to see his operation up close. From there we headed back to Charlotte to tour the Jacobsen manufacturing plant and see up close where and how all the equipment is made.

It was a great experience all around Thanks again Barry and Steve.

Remember the postman’s slogan? “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” Well, the Ridge at Manitou entrants in the Club Championship Tournament were cut from the same cloth, they considered golfing with their hip waders, the weather gave it its worst.

Their love of the game and camaraderie was rewarded by the great meal prepared by Chef Patrick, their options were; Choice Malepeque Oysters on Half Shell, Tomato Bocconcini, House Smoked Louisiana Pulled Pork Sandwich, Warm Salad topped with Grilled Black Tiger Shrimp and last but not least the 6 oz. Flat Iron Steak – hmmmm – are you thinking of trying some of this yourself?

The results of the tournament are:

Men’s Divisions - Mark Aboud (far left)

Chairman’s Division - Michael Murney

Senior Men’s Division - Don Cloutier (left)

Ladies Division - Flourence Cloutier (right)

Presented by Drew Rachar Ridge General Manager (far right)

All in all everyone was a winner standing up to Mother nature and enjoying a good game of golf and toasting to good friends.

On Saturday July 7th the Ridge had the privilege of hosting the wedding of Denise Poirier and Kevin Wilson. It took Kevin 12 years to get Denise to the alter but when he did it was a wedding to remember. The Shawn Mei band played 50’s – 60’s Rock & Roll and the 45+ crowd danced the house down. The Mother of the bride showed the youngsters what it meant to “Cut the Rug,” she was on the dance floor the whole night! The regular patrons and golfers in the screened-in-porch pushed their chairs aside and had a party of their own and danced the night away as well. If you want to have a great round of golf, a fantastic meal and maybe luck in to a dance as well, than the Ridge is the place to go.
